Third-Generation Tan Rises to Power: Lucio Tan’s 29-year-old grandson appointed as vice president of PAL Holdings, Inc.
Lucio Tan III, son of the late Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr. and a grandson of taipan Lucio Tan, lands a key position in Philippine Airlines operator PAL Holdings, Inc.
In a disclosure to the PSE on Thursday, PAL Holdings, Inc.’s board of directors approved the appointment of the 29-year-old Tan III as vice president of the company.
The appointment of the third generation Tan arrives at a turbulent time for PAL as the oldest carrier in Asia is currently in the middle of “a comprehensive restructuring plan” to rise from the current global crisis.
In late 2019, the younger Tan was appointed as a director of PAL Holdings, Inc. and president and chief operating officer of Tanduay Distillers, Inc. shortly after the death of his father. Aside from this, he also occupies a seat on the board of directors of LT Group and its various units, including Tanduay Distillers, Inc., MacroAsia Corp., PAL Holdings, Inc., Philippine Airlines, Inc., and Air Philippines Corp.
Having lived in San Francisco, California before returning to the Philippines to join his grandfather’s business, Tan III graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering and a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University and has worked as an intern at Apple, Facebook, and Lyft.
