Courier and motorcycle-hailing company JoyRide is set to enter the car-hailing industry, attempting to go against Grab Philippines.

According to JoyRide, it has secured approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to be the latest transport network company (TNC) allowed to operate in the country.

The company said it received its certificate of accreditation as TNC from the LTFRB on Feb. 24.

"We view this as a good development as commuters will now have another viable choice for safe, comfortable, and affordable car rides to their destination," JoyRide Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs Noli Eala said.

JoyRide first launched in 2019 as one of the three motorcycle ride-hailing firms included in the pilot study on the viability of using motorcycles as a form of public transport, along with Angkas and Move It. It currently operates in Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Baguio City, and Metro Cebu with vehicles ranging from motorcycles, cars, vans, and trucks for its other services such as express motorcycle deliveries, buy-for-me services, and courier deliveries for business.

Following the announcement, JoyRide said it is now accepting TNVS drivers and operators to register as partners.
