Ng is the first pilot to assume the presidency of the flag carrier since the early 1960s.

He has been with PAL since 2003 as a member of the on-ground staff before attending the PAL Aviation School. He then rose through the ranks and was promoted to SVP in 2019.

The newly-appointed acting president and COO of PAL is the husband of Tan’s daughter Lilybeth, who is the airline’s AVP for Pilot Affairs.

The change in leadership, which is in line with the completion of the company’s restructuring plan, comes after the resignation of Gilbert Gabriel Santa Maria as president and COO of the airline company.

Santa Maria also stepped down from his post at PAL Holdings Inc. (PHI) and Air Philippines Corporation (APC) as director, and Capt. Ng has also been appointed to take over the said positions.

According to PAL’s disclosure to the local bourse, Santa Maria is considered resigned from all other positions and directorate in all other companies or subsidiaries in the expanded Lucio Tan Group.

Santa Maria assumed the company’s leadership in 2019, and led the company’s filing for bankruptcy in the U.S. in 2021.
