Aside from accessing social media platforms, 53% were found to access the internet to read, watch, and/or listen to things of interest to them, 41% use the internet to know news about the government, 24% on elections, 22% to shop online, 20% to send, receive and/or read emails, and 10% to attend formal and/or non-formal online learning.
Almost all internet users use an instant messaging application (99%), and 98% use Facebook Messenger. Other applications of the like trail very far behind, namely Viber (5%), WhatsApp (2%), Telegram (2%), WeChat (1%), Hangouts (0.3%), Signal (0.1%), and Line (0.03%).
The survey also found an increase in internet users who went online to know more about news about the government and the elections from June to September 2021.
While the majority of Filipinos still prefer to get their news through television (91%) and radio (49%), nearly half of Filipino adults get theirs from the internet, and 44% cited Facebook.
Pulse Asia said the poll, which was conducted using face-to-face interviews among 2,400 respondents, had a ±2 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level.
