Tech giant Microsoft announces the appointment of former Globe Telecom Inc. SVP Peter Maquera as the new CEO of its operations in the Philippines.

According to Microsoft, Maquera brings extensive experience building and transforming companies from early-stage development to market leadership across various industries, including business process outsourcing (BPO), information technology (IT), real estate, and finance.

As CEO, he is responsible for accelerating the cloud and digital transformation journey of Microsoft's businesses in the country, helping the community build resilience through digital skills, and empowering digital-first companies and start-ups with the tools to scale innovation.

"The Philippines continues to be an important market for Microsoft, and we are humbled by the incredible opportunities we see in empowering the country — whether it's through a trusted cloud, digital acceleration or positively impacting the lives of 25 million Filipinos with the Para Sa Bayan initiative. Peter brings a deep understanding of growing businesses and teams, and we're looking forward to working with him to elevate the Philippines to the next level," Microsoft Asia Pacific President Andrea della Mattea said of Maquera.

The newly-appointed Microsoft CEO is currently a board of trustee member at the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), a Board Advisor to the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI), and an alternate director of Bridge Alliance.

"I'm thrilled to join Microsoft at this amazing moment in time in the Philippines. We're seeing companies and industries realize the importance of a trusted cloud environment as they recover and rebuild from the pandemic, and I'm excited to help them with their evolution and digital transformation journey," Maquera said.

Maquera served as the senior vice president for the enterprise group of Globe prior to joining Microsoft. Following his appointment to an executive leadership role at Microsoft, Globe has announced the appointment of Don Rae as Maquera's replacement effective March 31, 2022.

Rae has been in the telecommunications industry for over 25 years. Currently, he is a senior advisor for the Digital Solutions Group (DSG) team in Globe and concurrently sits as chairman of Yondu, a portfolio company of the Globe Group.
